On Sunday 29 April, 2018 the San Diego Nederlandse Groep will celebrate Koningsdag at Flinn Springs Park. The park is located about 5 miles east of El Cajon off Lake Jennings Road exit of Interstate 8. Families and all ages welcome!

Park in the first (upper lot) and look for Dutch flags and orange at picnic area 2 (you can ask the gate ranger as well). John will be arriving when the park opens at 9:30 a.m. You are welcome to come anytime afterwards but expect most will arrive around 11 a.m. and later.

This will be a picnic/potluck event. Please bring a dish to share – note: There is NO electricity. Please consider this when making your food. The park shows there are grills, but recommend if you have a small grill to bring that. John will bring a small grill with propane tanks (like the one used at Jack’s in previous years). Beer and wine are allowed. Thomas Hootman will DJ some Dutch tunes.

CHANGE: This cannot be a free to attend event. There is a fee to reserve this space. Please help John cover the costs by $5 each adult (18 and over). Also note, the park charges a $3 per vehicle entrance fee (not per person, per vehicle) which is not part of the reservation fee.

Your help with this nominal request to help pay for a nice location for Koningsdag is appreciated. For years we have been able to do this at no entry fee. But this year it must be done.

This is a very nice park. Many Coast Live Oak trees (native to the region), a grassy area, picnic tables, a small covered pavilion, and a nearby play ground and grass. It also has restrooms with running water.

– Need volunteers to plan and run children’s games

– Need help setting up and cleaning up afterwards

– Gift baskets or items for a door prize drawing (or items for a baskets, please contact John).

– portable voetbal goals and balls for those who want to play

– forward the information/invite to other Dutch/Belgian/Indonesian/Suriname folks interested in joining us to celebrate.

– Does someone have sjoelbakken you can bring?

Please contact Nathalie at to help.

We must be off-site by 5 pm.

Also appreciated are donations of gift baskets/certificates to help cover the costs of rental, plates, napkins, website fees etc. Please contact John through the messenger app on meetup, the Facebook group (@DutchSanDiego) or email:

We realize this is after the official Koningsdag, but we cannot hold it during the week and by celebrating it on a Sunday we encourage the Dutch School and their students to join. We hope you will join us. Please be responsible if drinking alcohol. Have a designated driver and do not over drink. Please do not litter. This is a pack in pack out event.

Make sure to wear your orange!
